Fishermen find P17 M worth of cocaine floating in waters off Cagayan

CAGAYAN—-The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency reported on Tuesday the recovery of P17 million worth of suspected illegal drugs at the sea waters between the Municipality of Abulug and Ballesteros, in Cagayan province.

Barangay Chairman Erwin Lobas of Brgy. Sanja, Aparri, Cagayan on Monday reported to the authorities the recovery of suspected illegal drugs.

According to Lobas, the floating items which were believed to be containing illegal drugs, probably cocaine, were actually seen by fishermen from Brgy. Sanja, Aparri.

Joint elements of Human Risk Management Unit (HRMU) 2, Aparri Maritime Police Precinct (MPP), Aparri Police , Regional Intelligence Division (RID), Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU)2, PDEA Region 2 and other law enforcement units , acted on the reports received from Barangay Chairman Lobas.

The suspected illegal drugs were turned over to the HRMU team by the Barangay Chairman.

There were three packed items weighing more or less 3 kilograms with an estimated street value of P17 million.

Later, PDEA RO II Narcotic Detection Dog (NDD) “Joan” showed signs the recovered items were illegal drugs.

Meanwhile, recovery operations are still ongoing to locate and recover the remaining items (drugs) believed to be at sea, according to DIR III Joel Plaza, Regional Director, PDEA RO II.
