Grigor Dimitrov has been one of the lucky few to debut at the Shanghai ATP due to rain disrupting the tournament. The Bulgarian was able to play on the indoor center court and defeat Zizou Bergs to achieve his 100th victory in Masters 1000 tournaments. Impressive numbers for the 33-year-old player who has been physically affected since the Laver Cup. He missed Beijing, but Dimitrov returns to Asia with the same enthusiasm to look towards the future. During the press conference, the former world number 3 spoke about how he has been feeling physically, how he approaches this professional stage, and the importance of appreciating the journey to date.
” It seems to have become a special tournament. The first round was tough playing for a couple of days in such complicated weather conditions. In terms of my health, it hasn’t been easy, especially last week, so I’m trying to do my best with what I have. I think I have done a good job so far. I played very well, especially in the third set. In the first two games, I was still adjusting a bit, but overall I feel like I have done many things right, so I just want to gain a bit more confidence and hopefully be able to do it in every match to go far.”
